50 lakh women to be empowered in Mujib Year: Indira
Around 50 lakh marginal women will be empowered with it in Mujib Year, said State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira.
The government beneath the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is committed to ensure empowerment and modern development of women of the united states, Indira said.
She said this while addressing as the principle guest at a view-exchange meeting of 64th session of ‘UN Commission on the Status of Women’, jointly arranged by the ladies and Child Affairs Ministry and the UN Women Bangladesh, at Sonargaon Hotel in metropolis on Sunday (March 1).
“After gaining power in 2001, BNP cancelled the women development policy that was formulated through the Awami League government period. Due to this fact, the progress of ladies in Bangladesh was stopped,” Indira said.
The meeting was presided over by Women and Children Affairs Secretary Kazi Rowshan Akter.
Country Representative of UN Women Shoko Ishikawa and Executive Director of Deepto Foundation Zakia k Hassan, amongst others, were also present as special guests at the meeting.
