4 bodies of fishermen recovered from Bay of Bengal
Four bodies of fishermen were recovered from Bay of Bengal adjacent to Sundarbans in Patharghata upazila of the district from Saturday evening (July 28) to Sunday morning (July 29).

Besides, 3 fishermen were also recovered alive.   

On Saturday (July 21), a fishing trawler capsized in deep sea with many fishermen on board, Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of Barguna District Fisheries Trawler Owners Association, told media.

On July 23, 3 trawlers, on behalf of Trawler Owners Association, were sent to deep sea to rescue them.

On July 28, 3 fishermen, after 5 days, were rescued alive floating in the sea. Later, 3 decomposed bodies were fished out of water from 3 different places of Sundarbans.

The bodies were buried following funeral prayer. The corpses could not be identified as they were beyond recognition, Golam Mostafa Chowdhury said.

“On July 21, 92 fishermen went missing due to trawler capsize. Of them, 35 returned, while 57 are still missing,” quoting Abul Hossen Faraji, vice-president of Barguna District Fisheries Trawler Owners Association.

The rescued fishermen and the family of the deceased will be given assistance from upazila administration, Md Humayuin Kabir, Patharghata Upazila Executive Officer told media.
