275 trucks stranded in Benapole, Petrapole
India's Border Security Power (BSF) has restricted the motion of 275 trucks in Petrapole and adjoining Benapole ports seeing as a good quarantine measure, putting motorists and authorities in a good quagmire.
2 hundred Indian trucks entered Benapole while 75 Bangladeshi kinds Petrapole right before the imposition of a lockdown about March 22 in the biggest channel for trade between your neighbouring nations.
On June 8, only imports from India were allowed.
Since then, the BSF has been refusing to permit any of the 275 trucks to return to their origins after releasing their goods, since it believes the vehicles might spread coronavirus.
Moreover, though the BSF allowed the motorists and helpers of all 75 Bangladeshi vehicles to return home, they aren't accepting the Indian motorists.
The empty Indian trucks are now occupying the parking sheds, creating traffic jam and obstructing the release of recently imported goods, said Kalim Uddin, a leader of Benapole Interface Workers Union.
"We had a small amount of money inside our pocket that people received as truck hire while entering Bangladesh 90 days ago," said Indian vehicle driver Sushant Kumar.
"We are struggling now to get food. Moreover, we have to sleep within our trucks, as we aren't allowed to go beyond your port."
The port authority has been providing food to the Indian truck motorists, but still it isn't enough to feed all of them every time, said the official.
"We'd requested the Petrapole interface authorities and Indian truck owners repeatedly to take back their automobiles and send our 75 trucks to Bangladesh in several meetings we had in the no-man's area," explained Mamun Kabir Tarafdar, director for site visitors at the Benapole interface.
"Now India isn't allowing the motorists of the 75 trucks to enter Petrapole and take back their vehicles also."
