270 shanties gutted in Chittagong slum fire
A total of 270 shanties were gutted as a fire broke out at a slum in Chattogram city early Monday (Feb 3).

The fire erupted at SR slum situated beside a railway in Paschim Madarbari area, under Sadarghat police station, of the city around 5:10 am.

A total of 15 fire fighting units from Agrabad, Nandankanan, Chandanapur and Bandar fire stations rushed to the spot and doused the fire around 8:00 am, said Fire Service Assistant Director Azizul Islam to Banglanews.

No casualties were reported in the fire accident yet, he said.

Some 270 shanties have been gutted in the fire. The extent of damage due to the fire accident could not be determined immediately, he added.

About 350 families used to live in the slum, said locals.

Earlier on January 31, more than hundred shanties were gutted when a slum caught fire at Mirzarpool area in the port city.

On January 24, one hundred shanties were gutted as a devastating fire broke out at the same slum.
