2500 poor get free treatment at KAMPS’s camp
More than 2500 poor patients received free treatment and were distributed necessary medicine on Wednesday at a ‘Free Medical Camp’ held at Hatibandha, Shakhipur in Tangail.
Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS), a voluntary healthcare organization arranged the free medical camp in honour of the language martyrs, marking the International Mother Language Day 2018.
KAMPS has organised the event as part of its regular annual event conducted for the last 14th consecutive years.
A team of more than 20 expert physicians and technologists treated the helpless and poor patients of Tangail and nearby area in the daylong camp. Renowned kidney specialist Lab Aid Specialised Hospital Kidney Department Chief Consultant Professor Dr MA Samad led the voluntary work.
Patients received treatment for various diseases including kidney, heart, liver, Guyenne, gastro, diabetes, ENT, general medicine, and skin diseases. Above 100-year old patient also enrolled for free cataract surgery.
Side by side with treatment, necessary lab tests of the patients like Blood Test, Urine, Creatinine, Blood Sugar, USG, ECG were done and also necessary medicines were distributed among them free of cost.
A total of 2040 patients were examined, of them 26 percent were found with kidney problem, 40 percent diabetes and 31 percent were diagnosed with high blood pressure.
As part of the daylong program, a discussion meeting was held on how to prevent the kidney disease.
Former Secretary of the Government, former Chairman of BERC and ACC and presently President of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), Golam Rahman attended the discussion as chief guest with Chief Adviser of KAMPS, former General Manager of Bangladesh Bank, Md Abdul Malek in the chair.
The cover of regular annual publication of KAMPS, pought out on the occasion of Free Medical Camp, named “Prayash-14”, was also unveiled during the discussion meeting.
KAMPS Chairman Professor Dr MA Samad presented key note paper on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Golam Rahman urged the affluent people of the society to come forward to patronize the initiatives usually KAMPS undertakes in providing free healthcare among poor segment of the society.
He thanked KAMPS and its Chairman, Dr MA Samad for conducting humanitarian services through KAMPS almost round the year.
In the keynote presentation, MA Samad said naturally the women folks are deprived from the treatment facilities in society and families due to many reasons like their shyness, common tendency to hide diseases or illness.
He mentioned that the expected development of the country in all respect is not possible by leaving behind the women segment of population because they are half of total population in the country.
KAMPS Managing Director Nasrin Begum delivered address of welcome while Senior Assistant Secretary of the ministry of Industries, Amin Sharif Supon, Chairman of Shokhipur Upazila Parisad, Shawkat Shikder, Chairman of Dariapur Union Parisad, Ansar Ali, Asif also spoke on the occasion.
The Doctors took part in the free medical camp include Dr. Mihir Chandra Debnath, Dr. Md. Maniruzzaman, Dr. Hafizur Rahman, and Dr. Atahar Hossain.
