2 Japanese citizens held with 30 gold bars at Dhaka airport
Customs officials detained two Japanese citizens along with 30 gold bars at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital early Thursday.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) deputy director Payel Pasha said, Japanese citizens Takeo Mimura and Shuichi Satok landed at the airport at midnight by an Air Asia flight (AK 71).

The CIID official challenged the duo while crossing green channel and asked about gold. But they denied of carrying gold.

Later, 30 gold bars, weighing around 12 kilogrammes, were recovered after searching their bodies. The gold bars were kept in their waist.

The estimated price of the gold is about Tk 6 crore, the official said.

The foreigners were, however, handed over to the police.

This is the first ever incident of detention of Japanese nationals alongwith gold bars in Dhaka airport.
