18 fishermen rescued after 22 days floating in Bay
Bangladesh Navy rescued 18 fishermen after 22 times floating on a fishing boat on the Bay of Bengal, an ISPR news release said on Saturday.
The Naval ship ‘Nirmul’ and ‘Atondrya’ on Friday (Jan 8) rescued the fishermen together with the boat ‘FB Al Hasan’ from 83 nautical miles from Saint Martin Island in the Bay as the two Naval ships were patrolling.
They are Kashem Kerani, 60, Babul, 32, Al Ameen, 20, Hossain, 27, Tofazzal, 50, Khalil, 36, Shakil, 45, Aziz, 67, Nazrul 59, Shamim Shikder, 26, Abul Kashem, 45, Kabir Uddin, 42, Jagannath, 45, Yousuf, 36, Ramzan, 50, Hafiz, 35, Shah Alam, 40 and Bablu, 34.
According to the news release, the 18 fishermen continued fishing in the Bay together with the boat on December 9, 2020.
Seeing that engine of the fishing boat went out of buy near Payra sea interface on Dec 17, they were floating 22 days and survived after having dried seafood and rice in the Bay, the release said.
All the fishermen were actually and mentally weak state and offered primary treatment, necessary food and warm cloths.
Later, they were handed over to Saint Martin Naval Foundation to send Patuakhali after restoring engine of the boat.
