Zafrullah sued again in extortion case
Another extortion case has been filed against Gonoshasthaya Kendra trustee Zafrullah Chowdhury.

An individual named Md Hasan Imam filed a case against Zafrullah accusing him of demanding Tk 10 million from him on Friday, said Ashulia Police Station OC Rizaul Haque.

Gono Bishwabidyalay Registrar Delower Hossain, executive director of Gonoshasthaya Kendra Saiful Islam Shishir, Awlad Hossain and 30 unnamed individuals were named in the case.

Zafrullah’s aides have been ‘plotting’ to ‘grab’ 52,356 square feet of Hasan Imam’s land at Dhamshona Union in Ashulia, according to the case detail.

They ‘demanded Tk 10 million through extortion’ when Hasan Imam visited the land on Oct 13 and also vandalised the ownership signboard hoisted on the land, according to the case dossier.

“There is no pressure from the government or any other quarter. We are filing the case after a standard investigation based on the complaint, said Ashulia Police Station chief.

Zafrullah, known as a leader of a professionals group supporting the BNP, has caused controversy over the last two weeks after he made a derogatory remark on the chief of army staff during a Somoy TV talk show.

A sedition case has been filed against Zafrullah in Dhaka following his remarks. An individual named Mohammed Ali from Manikganj filed a case against him with Ashulia Police Station accusing him of vandalisation, land grabbing and extortion last week.

Registrar Delower Hossain, Shishir and three others from Gonoshasthaya Kendra have been named in that case too.
