Youth ODIs: Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 5 wkts in 2nd match
Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team took a 1-0 lead in the five-match Youth ODI series against Sri Lanka beating the tourists by 5 wickets in the 2nd match at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Monday.
The first game of the five-match Youth ODI series between the two teams was abandoned at the same venue on Saturday due to cyclonic storm ‘Bulbul’ that lashed the country’s coastal districts on Sunday.
The Monday’s match was also delayed due to rain and was reduced to a 31-over-a-side one.
Sent in to bat first, visiting Sri Lanka U-19 team scored 209 for 7 in curtailed 31 overs.
Opener Navod Paranavithana scored team’s highest 78 runs off 75 balls hitting nine fours and one six, Gamage Dinusha added 41 runs off 34 balls, Ravindu Rasantha 33 off 22 balls while Chamindu Piyumal made 30 runs off 20 balls.
Shamim Hossain and Rakibul Hasan bagged two wickets each conceding 41 and 37 runs respectively.
In reply, hosts Bangladesh U-19 team scored 210 runs for 5 wickets in 25.4 overs, riding on 161 runs in the 5th wicket partnership by Shamim Hossain and Tawhid Hridoy.
Shamim Hossain, who grabbed two wickets, also smashed 95 runs off 61 balls featuring nine fours and five sixes to be adjudged man of the match while Tawhid Hridoy remained unbeaten on 82 runs off 56 balls, hitting seven fours and three sixes.
Amshi De Silva picked up three wickets for 36 runs for the Islanders.
The remaining three Youth ODI matches will be held on November 14, 17 and 19 respectively at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
