We were misled by rumors, says protesting students
After visiting the political office of Awami League president, protesting students said they were confused after hearing rumors.
The protesters said it in a press conference after visiting the Awami League political office in Dhanmondi following clash between them and AL activists on Saturday noon (August 4).
AL has claimed that 17 of their party men were injured after a clash broke out when students, acting on rumors, tried to march towards its office.
After the clash, students told police that some of their fellow protesters were being held in AL office. Then police took 10 students to visit the party office.
After the visit, Kazi Ashikur Rahman, student of Dhaka Ideal College, said some people came to us and claimed that four girls and few other boys are being held in AL office. However, we have found no such evidence in first hand inspection.
He also said, “The information of killing or detaining students were simply rumors and I am urging everyone not to pay attention to such gossips.”
On the other hand, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader alleged that political miscreants have infiltrated the student movement to unhinge the country and attacked the Awami League office in disguise.
