The measures have been described as "unproductive and cynical" by Biden administration officials. The new sanctions underline the fraught relationship between both countries. And if we needed any indication of how it will develop over the next four years, President Biden's nominee for Secretary of State Antony Blinken already took a strong stance towards China at his confirmation hearing.
