US film personalities slam Golden Globes for relegating Minari to spanish film category
Countless Hollywood personalities, including Lulu Wang, Simu Liu and Phil Lord said "Minari can be an American film" just after it was revealed that Lee Isaac Chung's directorial has been deemed ineligible to find the best picture race at the Golden Globes 2021.Various sources reported that the film, starring Steven Yeun in the lead, was relegated to the best spanish film category since it is predominantly in Korean language.

As per the rules of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which organises the gross annual Golden Globes ceremony, the contenders for the best drama or perhaps comedy/musical categories needs to feature at least 50 % English dialogues.

Director Wang slammed the HFPA for its "antiquated rules".

Her own film, The Farewell starring Awkwafina, was categorised as a spanish film at 2020 Golden Globes since it featured comprehensive dialogues in Mandarin."I have not seen a far more American film than Minari this season. It's a tale about an immigrant family group, in America, pursuing the American fantasy. We should change these antiquated guidelines that characterises American as just English-speaking," Wang said. 

Likewise starring Han Ye-ri, Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho, Youn Yuh-jung, and Will Patton, Minari revolves around a family group of South Korean immigrants who try to make it in rural America through the 1980s.Billed when a semi-autobiographical drama take on Chung's private upbringing, the film borrows it is title from a plant quite typical in Korean culture.

Hellboy actor Daniel Dae Kim called out the HFPA, saying the guidelines of the association possess are accountable for sidelining of films about Asian Americans."The film exact carbon copy of being told to return to your country when that nation is in fact America," he tweeted.Filmmaker Lord said the HFPA should switch its rules, or risk a Golden Globes boycott.The HFPA will announce Golden Globes nominations on February 3, 2021.
