US$ 24bn received as foreign assistance in 9 yrs: Muhith
Bangladesh received foreign assistance amounting to US$ 24 billion from various countries and development partners in the last nine years, Finance Minister AMA Muhith told Parliament on Tuesday.

The minister revealed this to Jatiya Sangsad while replying to a starred question from Awami League MP Nurunnabi Chowdhury (Bhola-3).

“The disbursed amount of foreign assistance for the country’s development works was US$ 24,157.64 million (US$ 24.16 billion) from various countries and donor agencies from 2008-’09 fiscal year to 2016-’17 fiscal year,” Muhith told.

Of the disbursed amount, US$ 18,559.83 million was received as loan, while the remaining US$ 5,597.81 million as donation, said the Finance Minister.

He said Bangladesh received the highest US$ 7,361.68 million from IDA (World Bank) during the period, while US$ 6,183.24 million from the Asia Development Bank (ADB), US$ 2,957.59 million from Japan, US$ 1,830.04 million from UN agencies, US$ 993.27 million from China, US$ 455.22 million from IDB, US$ 416.65 million from Russia, US$ 350.73 million from South Korea and US$ 3,801.11 million from other countries and donor agencies.

In reply to another starred question from AL MP Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia (Reserved Seat-3), the minister said the amount of revenue collection was Tk 1,79,627.25 crore against the target of Tk 2,25,000 crore in the 2017-18 fiscal year.
