Two plays of Nuna Afroze on stage
To remember Noble poet Rabindranath Tagore on his 77th death anniversary, leading theater troupe of Bangladesh Prangonemor is bringing two plays on stage. Rabindranath Tagore died in 1941 on 'Baishe Srabon' (The 22nd Srabon in the Bengali calendar).

This year, the day falls on August 5 and to celebrate that day Prangonemore is going to stage their much acclaimed production 'Shesher Kobita' and 'Ami O Rabindranath'. Both the plays are directed by Nuna Afroz.

'Shesher Kobita' will be staged on August 5 at the main theater hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at 7pm. "Shesher Kabita" is a novel by Rabindranath Tagore, widely considered a landmark in Bengali literature.

The novel recounts the love story of Amit Ray (pronounced "amito rAy"), a barrister educated at Oxford, whose virulent intellectualism reveals itself in its opposition to all forms of tradition. He meets Labonyo in a car accident and the romance builds up in the misty hills of Shillong.

About 'Shesher Kobita,' director Nuna Afroz said, "It is really risky to create a drama based on such a famous novel. Because audiences expect something else while reading and when that expectation does not meet the eye, the production obviously flops. It's really hard to satisfy the reader.

However, we are fortunate that audience enjoy our production very much. Not only that, when we premiered the show, Syed Shamsul Haque, Sunil Gangopadhyay, Bivash Chakraborty and many other pioneer cultural personalities came to watch the production and each of them applaud our effort."

'Shesher Kobita' features Nuna Afroz, Ananta Hira, Ramij Raju, Shuveccha Rahman, Awal Reza, Sarwar Shoikot among others. On the other hand, 'Ami O Rabindranath' will be staged at the Baily Road's Mahila Samiti Mancha on August 6 at the same time.

'Ami O Rabindranath', scripted and directed by Nuna Afroz, depicts Tagore's life and works through an eye of his devoted reader. A 29-year-old, 69-year-old, 21-year-old and also 80-year-old Rabindranath will appear on stage on this day.
