Tribunal to send death warrant of Azhar to jail on Monday
International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) will send death warrant of condemned Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam to the jail authorities on Monday, said ICT deputy registrar Amit Kumar Dey

He said the copy of the entire verdict of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court reached at the tribunal after 5.00 pm on Sunday because of it no step was taken.

The death warrant will be delivered to the jail authorities on Monday morning after acquiring the order from the tribunal.

On Sunday afternoon full verdict of the Appellate Division was released upholding the death sentence of Azhurl Islam.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said, “The convict must submit an assessment petition within 15-day following the release of the verdict. If the review petition isn't filed, the jail authorities will need legal steps to hold the convict.”

The ICT-1 sentenced the former Jamaat’s assistant secretary general to death on December 30, 2014, for crimes against humanity committed in Rangpur through the Liberation War.

He was found guilty of five of the six charges brought against him.

The former Jamaat leader filed the appeal against his conviction on January 28, 2015.
