Transcom Group Chairman Latifur Rahman passes away
Transcom Group Chairman and CEO Latifur Rahman passed away in Cumilla on Wednesday (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).
He was 75.
The publisher of leading dailies Daily Star and Prothom Alo, died in his sleep at his village home in Chouddagram upazila around 11:30am, family sources said.
He will be buried at Banani Graveyard following a namaj-e-janaza at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Isha prayers today.
Latifur Rahman is survived by his wife, one son, two daughters and a host of admirers.
Transom Group has companies dealing with beverages, electronics, pharmaceuticals, fast food, snacks and breakfast cereals, distributions, newspapers, radio and tea plantations, include, Transcom Beverages, Transcom Electronics, Eskayef Bangladesh, Transcom Foods, Transcom Distribution Company, Transcom Consumer Products, Mediastar, Mediaworld and Tea Holdings. Major stakeholder in Reliance Insurance and National Housing Finance.
Latifur Rahman was the Vice-President of Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce-Bangladesh and member of the Executive Board of the ICC.
Mr. Latifur Rahman had served in many important national bodies in various capacities including President of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry(MCCI), Dhaka for seven terms; President of Bangladesh Employers’ Federation (BEF) for two terms and Member of Executive Committee of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FBBCI), Bangladesh Jute Mills Association and Bangladesh Tea Association. He was Member of the Executive Board of Bangladesh Bank. He had been closely involved with fiscal and trade policy making bodies of the Government as Chairman, Trade-body Reforms Committee and Member, Advisory Committee on WTO.
Mr. Latifur Rahman was also the Chairman of National Housing Finance & Investments, Member, Governing Body of BRAC and former Chairman, Nestlé Bangladesh, Holcim Cement Bangladesh.
