Theatre inspires to face crisis with courage
Ups and downs are part of life but those people who can face the crisis with courage can overcome the problems. This eternal truth has been depicted in ‘Bishghum’, a family drama staged by the Indian troupe Anik Theatre at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday.
The troupe is visiting Dhaka to take part at the 11-day Ganga-Jamuna Cultural Festival organized by the local theatre practitioners. Anik Theatre staged the play on the second evening of the festival.
Bishghum, written by Jyotishman Chattapadhyay and directed by Arup Roy, begins with the narration of an imaginary snake by the characters of the play. They narrate that snake-bit people instantly fall asleep and those who can overcome the affect of venom can escape death.
With the advancement of plot the same characters, who are the members of the family, face a huge crisis and become very frustrated. The elderly members of the family do not lose temper and guide others to overcome the trouble.
The seventh edition of the festival that began on Friday through staging of the Indian dance troupe Dancers' Guild's presentation of Tomari Matir Kanya will feature theatre, street theatre by 30 local and Indian troupes.
As part of the festival, 60 cultural organizations will present dance and music at other venues of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
