Theater on refugees on cards
Set against the communal and racial conflicts going on across the globe, Dhaka University's theatre and performance studies department has organized a special theater show titled 'Theater for Rohingya'.
The special theater show has begun yesterday in Rohingya camps at Ukhiya and Teknaf in Cox's Bazar which will continue till today.
MA students of the department will perform in the theater show. On the first day 'Pajore Chandraban', a play written by Shahman Moishan and directed by Israfil Shahin was staged. The play narrates stories of repression and conflicts going on in the world citing some references from the history.
A rehearsal show of the play was held on February 17 at Natmandol of the university. The play will have its premiere show on March 5 at the same venue. In association with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the department will stage four shows of the play beginning from March 6 at the Experimental Theatre Hall of the academy.
'We got the idea of producing the play watching the plights of the Rohingya refugees who became homeless for the ethnic cleansing going on in Myanmar,' director Israfil Shahin said.
