THAI cuts flights to Dhaka amid coronavirus epidemic
The flag carrier Thai Airways has decided to cut frequencies to Dhaka from February-end to almost all of March over concerns regarding the coronavirus outbreak which includes killed over 2000 persons in China.
Flight TG339 will be cancelled from February 25 to the majority of March while flight TG340 will be cancelled from February 26 till almost all of March.
The carrier is going to cancel some flights to eight other countries during this time period following a fall popular due to the coronavirus epidemic from Wuhan in China.
Besides Bangladesh, the suspension of flights of the airline covers destinations in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Philippines and the United Arab Emirates.
Nond Kalinta, Vice President, Sales Department, THAI claimed that passengers are avoiding to visit after COVID-19 broke out. Hence it is crucial for the airline to adapt flights to complement commercial demand.
The novel coronavirus outbreak has up to now claimed more than 2500 lives in China and infected a lot more than 76,000 people.
Fears are mounting over the rise of new cases and fatalities outside China from COVID-19 as the World Health Organisation (WHO) warned of a shrinking window to stem the spread of the deadly disease.
The warning came as the first European died from the virus strain, which includes now spread to over 25 countries and caused over a dozen deaths outside China.
