Terengganu FC reach semis eliminating Basundhara Kings 4-2
Terengganu FC of the Malaysia reached the semifinal of the 3rd edition of Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup Football Tournament eliminating Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) champions Bashundhara Kings by 2-0 goals in their last group match at the floodlit MA Aziz Stadium here on Saturday.
With the day’s feat, Terengganu FC maintained their unbeaten run securing 7 points from three matches with two wins and one draw.
Sree Gokulam Kerala FC of India, which reached the semifinal beating Chennai City FC by 2-0 goals in the day’s first match, also secured 7 points from three matches with two wins and one draw.
Bashundhara Kings and Chennai City FC were eliminated from the tournament.
Earlier, the Malaysian club started their campaign thrashing Chennai City FC by 5-3 goals in their first match but played a goalless draw with Gokulam Kerala FC of India in their second game.
In the day’s match, captain cum English midfielder of Terengganu FC Lee Tuck made his first and tournament’s second hat-trick scoring three goals and substitute defender Azalinullah Alias netted the other goal.
Brazilian forward Bruno Suzuki Castanheira of Terengganu FC made first hat-trick of the tournament.
Bruno Suzuki made a new record in the Sheikh Kamal Club Cup tournament scoring the highest number of four goals in a match against Chennai City.
World cup playing Costa Rica forward Daniel Colindres and Lebanese striker Mohamad Jalal Kdouh scored one goal each for Bashundhara Kings.
In the day’s high-voltage game, Terengganu FC created strong pressure over their rivals from the very beginning.
In the 27th minute, Bashundhara Kings took the lead as their captain Daniel Colindres opened account by a header from goalmouth melee, off a long-range shot from defender Bishwanath Ghosh (1-0).
After conceding a goal, Terengganu FC came alive and created several good chances. But all of their attempts were denied by Anisur Rahman Zico.
But Bashundhara Kings got a huge blow just few minutes before the half-time,
Captain Lee Tuck scored two successive goals for Terengganu FC in spa of only two minutes, converting the spot kicks(46th and 48th minutes) (2-1).
Terengganu FC were awarded by the first penalty in the 45th minute while Yeasin Khan tackled forward Syafik Bin Ismail roughly in the danger zone and got second penalty in the 48th minute as Kyrgyz midfielder Bakhtiyar Duyshobekov fouled Syafik again in the danger zone.
After half time, Daniel Colindres could equal the margin in the 57th minute but Terengganu goalkeeper Ilham Amirullah Bin Razali denied the attempt.
Lee Tuck made his first and the 2nd hat-trick of the tournament in the 75th minute scoring a long-range right-footer outside the box (3-1).
Three minutes later, Azalinullah Alias scored team’s fourth goal with his left-footed shot from counter-attack in the 78th minute (4-1).
In the 82nd minute, Nigerian forward Eleta Kingsley missed the target but just after a minute Mohamad Jalal Kdouh successfully sent the ball home for the Kings in the 83rd minute (4-2).
