Sydney 'greatest concern' while floods sweep Australia
Western Sydney is currently the "most significant concern" from the most detrimental floods in years to have ravaged eastern Australia, PM Scott Morrison says.

Elements of New South Wales have observed almost 1m (3.2ft) of rain, flooding hundreds of homes and severing roads.

Mr Morrison warned of even more rain and times of danger to come as the crisis became not "only a coastal event".

He said Sydney's largest dam would overflow for at least another week, threatening highly populated areas.

Warragamba Dam discharged 500 gigalitres on Sydney - equal to the quantity of Sydney Harbor.

"We advise that the rainfall and flood situation will remain dynamic and intensely complex," Mr Morrison explained on Tuesday.

No deaths had been reported but thousands of people have already been evacuated and troops deployed after days and nights of torrential downpours in the united states.

The prime minister said the rain was expected to ease on Wednesday however the flood threat would remain.

Some 18,000 persons have been evacuated up to now on NSW, including a 37-year-old woman on labor who was airlifted just after being trapped by the flooding west of Sydney.

Another 15,000 were on evacuation notice on Tuesday.

Australia's Bureau of Meteorology (Bom) offers warned the problem is "far from over" as two key weather systems collide.
