Siberian jail ablaze following inmates riot
A fire has engulfed large parts of a prison in Russia's Siberia region following a riot by inmates who accused guards of mistreating them.
The area around the high-security Penal Colony No 15 in Angarsk has been sealed off and security forces deployed.
There are reports of casualties but their number is unclear.
Russia's penal provider said inmates had "attacked a guard" who needed to be taken to hospital.
Officials said the unrest was first under control and investigators had opened a study.
However, human rights groupings said rioting possessed broken out immediately after an inmate was beaten simply by a prison officer.
1 group published a link to a video recording of an inmate with bloody bandages around his arm who said he previously been choked and beaten by guards and had then cut his wrists in protest.
A good spokesperson for the group Siberia Without Torture told AFP reports agency riot law enforcement had surrounded the prison and a fire was raging on the lands.
Three structures were razed incorporating a woodwork factory, state-owned news agency Tass says.
The prison, 2,500 kilometers (4,000km) east of Moscow, holds about 1,200 inmates.
