Should you test for coronavirus? Soon you can examine on a dedicated Google website
US President Donald Trump announced Friday that internet giant Alphabet is creating a site where people should be able to check if they have symptoms of the novel coronavirus.
Verily Life Sciences, once a project in a Google X lab, now its own health business unit, is testing a “tool to greatly help triage individuals for COVID-19 testing,” Google confirmed on Twitter.
“Verily is in the early stages of development, and likely to roll testing out in the Bay Area, with the expectation of expanding more broadly as time passes,” the tweet said, discussing SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA and surrounding communities.
Trump thanked Google while declaring circumstances of national emergency as a result of deadly coronavirus pandemic.
Google is helping to develop a site “to determine whether a test is warranted and facilitate testing at a close by convenient location,” Trump said.
Google has a sizable team of engineers specialized in the project, and has made significant progress, according to Trump.
A launch date for the web site ought to be known by late Sunday, according to Vice President Mike Pence.
“You can go to the website, type in your symptoms and become given direction whether a test is indicated,” Pence said.
The website will direct users to places where they can obtain drive-through testing, he said.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA has begun setting up temporary, drive-through coronavirus testing locations.
