Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' to be staged
World famous play 'Hamlet' will be staged today at the national theatre hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The play 'Hamlet', originally written by William Shakespeare, has been translated and adapted by late ambidextrous writer Syed Shamsul Haque and directed by eminent director Ataur Rahman.

Hamlet' is a play that undertakes a profound exploration of moral dilemmas; it is also audacious and comic-tragedy with the themes of murder, distrust, clandestine affairs, palace-conspiracy and revenge.

Set in the Kingdom of Denmark, the play dramatises the revenge Prince Hamlet is instructed to enact on his uncle Claudius. Claudius had murdered his own brother, Hamlet's father, King Hamlet, and subsequently seized the throne, marrying his deceased brother's widow, Hamlet's mother Gertrude.

The production gets a new dimension as poems and songs by Rabindranath Tagore, Jibanananda Das and Syed Shamsul Haq have been incorporated with interference of light comedy of traditional jatrapala.
