Shahidul’s allegation of torture false: Joy
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy on Saturday (August 11) termed the arrested photographer Dr Shahidul Alam’s allegation of torture before court ‘false’.
Joy, also the ICT advisor to the Prime Minister, made statements in his verified facebook post in the afternoon.
Earlier on Friday evening (August 10), he also criticized Shahidul’s role in spreading provocation during the students’ movement demanding safe roads.
Photographer and Drik Gallery founder Shahidul was picked up by law enforcers from his Dhanmondi residence in the night of August 5. On the next day, police shown him arrested in an ICT case filed over spreading rumors in facebook and inciting violence during the movement. He was also placed on 7-day remand by court. While in court, Shahidul said he had been tortured in police custody.
In his Saturday’s facebook post, Joy said, “Shahidul’s torture claim against the government is one of the many false and baffling claims of he maid. He was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) where physicians examined his condition and found no evidence of torture. International media can also inquire the matter directly at the hospital.”
“It proves how much dishonest is Shahidul. He made false claim before court and acted in front camera as if he is having difficulties walking,” Joy added.
In his earlier facebook post, Joy alleged that Shahidul is responsible for inciting violence among students joined the movement.
