Shahed talked to Tareq Rahman over Skype: Information Minister
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday said the arrest of Regent Group chairman Mohammad Shahed has proved the continuous statements of BNP leaders absurd.

He made the remarks while exchanging views with reporters at the Secretariat in Dhaka.

Hasan said the federal government unearthed the irregularities of Regent Group, while its managing director was arrested yesterday.

"In addition, numerous others were arrested to the end and cases were filed against them," he said, adding that regulations enforcement agencies arrested Shahed too, which proved that the continuous statements of BNP are absurd.

The info minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken a zero tolerance policy against corruption and irregularities. Action has been taken against the corrupt people regardless of their political views, he added.

"And if Shahed's patrons must be caught, exactly what will BNP say about those that patronised him from Hawa Bhaban so when Shahed talked to Tareq Rahman over Skype?" he questioned.

Hasan said if someone was mixed up in wrongdoings of Shahed, action would be taken against her or him after investigation.

About the agitations against medical minister and the director general of the Director General of Health Services (DGHS), he said agitations could possibly be staged against any person as it is part of democratic practice.

If the DGHC was more conscious in signing handles different hospitals, the info minister said, Regent Hospital or JKG wouldn't normally get chance to focus on COVID-19 sample test.

About the registration of online news portals, he said: “We've already completed some processes. We received 1,600 probe reports on online portals in one agency and about 100 reports from another.”

More probe reports will be received later this month and the online portals registration will start, Hasan said.

If rumours are spread through the online portals later on, he said, immediate action will be studied against those right from the start of the registration process.
