Russia’s Sberbank device develops fully self-driving vehicle
SberAutoTech, a good subsidiary of Russia’s greatest lender Sberbank, is rolling out a fully self-driving vehicle, FLIP, which the company on Thursday referred to as a “taxi into the future”.
Sberbank is diversifying into areas ranging from foodstuff delivery and taxi products and services to cloud computing and cyber reliability, and features made technological strides, this past year unveiling a good new va, smart speaker and other gadgets.
FLIP may be the size of a typical passenger car but with space for 6 passengers, SberAutoTech said.
It has met the utmost requirement of international automated driving standards, but so far has only been tested in closed tracks.
SberAutoTech didn't disclose how much it had invested in the project or any details about prices, suppliers or it has the expected production timeline.
Replaceable batteries power the vehicle’s electric motor, nonetheless it may also harness the energy of alternative fuels like gas and hydrogen, SberAutoTech said.
“The company’s know-how is the battery layout, that allows for all modules to be replaced in only five minutes, much like refilling a typical car with traditional fuel,” the company said.
“The flexible architecture of SberAutoTech’s self-generating technology will permit us to roll out solutions across various verticals, like freight transport, last mile, and taxis,” said Sberbank chief technology officer David Rafalovksy.
The curved design, without clear front or rear, resembles the flying vehicles from the 1985 Soviet TV series “Guest from the near future”, which were also known as “Flip”.
Russian market leader Yandex has recently tested for a large number of driverless hours on Russian cities and overseas, while its driverless robot buggies have started delivering restaurant meals on Moscow.
