RU teachers, students demand fair probe into Akter murder
Teachers and students of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department of Rajhsahi University brought out a silent procession on Sunday in demand of proper investigation into the murder of Professor Akter Jahan.
The march began from in front of Rabindra Bhavan, and parading main roads of the campus it ended in front of the MCJ department. Later, a commemorative meeting was organized in the room no. 123 of the department.
MCJ Professor Khademul Islam said she had talked to him two days before his death. “She told me about a threat. Someone follows her. I never saw signs of suicide in him.”
Professor Dulal Chandra Bishwas said, “Akter's life was rough. We cannot avoid this liability. I want to make it clear, it's a murder. The university administration did not take proper action in this regard.”
Chairman of the department Professor Abdullah Al Mamun said, “She was found tied in a bed. In this position, a suicide is suspicious. This is symptom of a planned killing.”
Associate professor Mashiur Rahman, masters student Anuradhya Madhuri Parmar, Shatil Siraj and Mozammel Hossain Bakul spoke on the occasion.
Kazi Mamun Haider, Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, Dr. ABM Saiful Islam, Mamun Abdul Qayyum and Abdullahil Baki were present, on the occasion, along with more than 200 students.
On the progress of the case, the petitioner's lawyer Hassan Rizvi said that the case is pending in the Rajshahi CMM court. However, we applied to the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court for further investigation.”
On September 9, 2016, the body of Akter Jahan was recovered from the room 303 of Jubilee residential building of RU teachers. Later Kamrul Hasan, younger brother of Akhtar Jahan, filed a case against Ratan and unidentified people with the city's Motihar Police Station.
