‘Robber’ killed in shootout with cops in Gaibandha
A suspected robber was killed in a reported shootout with policemen in Sakoa Bridge area of Gaibandha-Palashbari Highway Saturday night (July 7).

Six police members were injured in the incident.

A locally-made pipe-gun was recovered from the spot.

The deceased was identified as Shamsul Mia, 38.

Being a member of the intra-district robber gang, he was accused in several cases.

Earlier, police from Gaibandha sadar and Sadullapur thana jointly conducted a drive and arrested Shamsul from Dholdanga Bazar at the noon, Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khan Shahriar told Banglanews.

Later, the law enforcers launched a drive accompanying Shamsul, to recover arms and nab other robbers, at the night.

The accomplices of Shamsul opened fire at the police, to snatch him away.

Police fired back, in retaliation.

Shamsul sustained bullet injuries in the shootout. He was rushed to a hospital where the physician pronounced him dead.

He was accused in 11 cases filed with different police stations including the sadar, Sadullapur and Palashbari police stations, over murder and robbery charges, said the OC.

The body will be handed over to the deceased’s family after conducting an autopsy, he added.
