Rice price not to go below Tk40: Tofail

DHAKA: Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said the price of rice will not drop below Tk 40 considering the benefits of the farmers.
The commerce minister also said that the price of oil is about to go up again.
He made the remark at a press conference in secretariat on Thursday (February 1).
Referring to the confusion about the amount of imported rice, Tofail said, “In the parliament, I said 28 lakh metric tonnes of rice will be imported through government and private sector combined. However, Food minister Qamrul Islam said import of 8 lakh metric tonnes by government. There is no confusion there.”
Tofail said the government has fixed rice price at Tk 39 per kilogram. It will be around 40 overall but won’t fall below than that.
