'Rangpur Express' catches fire after derailment
Intercity train 'Rangpur Express' caught fire after nine of its compartments including the engine derailed in Ullapara Rail Station of Sirajganj on Thursday .

The accident took place at about 2pm when the train was entering in the station.

Three bogies including the engine caught fire following the derailment.

Ullapara UNO Arifuzzaman told media that the accident took place because of mistake in pointing signal at the station. 

He said a number of passengers have been injured in the accident. Of them, 5/6 injured were taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, the Railway Secretary Mofazzel Hossain said there was no report of casualty and the fire was brought under control.

Fire fighters are conducting rescue operation, said Sirajganj's Fire Service and Civil Defence deputy assistant director. 

Rail communication of Dhaka with the northern and south-western districts remained suspended following the derailment.

The accident took place within a span of two days of another fatal train accident in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria.

Earlier, 16 people were killed and over 100 injured as an intercity train of 'Turna Nishita' collided with 'Udayan Express' in Mandobag area early Tuesday.
