PM inaugurates concrete pouring of RNPP 2nd unit
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday (July 14) inaugurated the first concrete pouring of the second unit of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) adjoining Paskey in Ishwardi of Pabna.
Deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation Yury Ivanovich Borisov attended the function as the Guest of Honour.
International Atomic Energy Association (IAEA) Director, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture & Head of the Federal Agency for Fishery Ilya Shestakov, Russian state-run nuclear agency Rosatom’s Deputy Director General Alexander Lokshin, Science & Technology Minister Architect Yafes Osaman, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif and Foreign Affairs Minsiter Shahriar Alam, among others, were present there.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister for Defense and Space Industry Yury Ivanovich Borisov came to Dhaka on Friday night (July 13), to attend the function.
The RNPP is supposed to add 2,400MW electricity to the national grid by 2024.
The mega project is being implemented by Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), with financial, technical and technological support from Russian state-run nuclear agency ‘Rosatom’.
On December 25 in 2015, Russian company JSC Atomstroyexport and BAEC signed a contract for construction of RNPP.
On November 2, 2011, Bangladesh signed a deal with Rosatom to construct the nuclear plant.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the RNPP on October 2, 2013.
