PM Hasina lays foundation stone of Matarbari power plant

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the 1,200MW Matarbari coal-fired power plant Sunday (January 28).
The premier laid the foundation stone through videoconferencing from her official residence Ganabhaban in Dhaka, at around 12:30pm.
Marking the occasion, officials of Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Ltd (CPGCBL) arranged a function at the project area at Maheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar. The state-run CPGCBL is implementing the ultra super coal-fired plant.
The plant will have two units, each having 600MW production capacity.
In November 2017, the CPGCBL signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japanese firm Mitsui Company Ltd, to build a 500-600 MW combined cycle power plant.
Manin construction of the project has been started which will cost estimated Tk 50,000 crores, sources said.
