Plane damage forces Israeli PM to extend trip to Warsaw
Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, was forced to spend another night in Warsaw after the plane, a Boeing 777, on which he was scheduled to fly home, was damaged just before takeoff by a pushback tractor.
After the airport mishap, Netanyahu, his wife and senior staff, returned to the Warsaw Intercontinental, where they had been staying since Tuesday, February 12.
A new plane was sent from Israel to Warsaw to bring the prime minister and his entourage back, El Al, the flag carrier of Israel said.
He departed from Warsaw around noon Friday, February 15.
Netanyahu had been scheduled to leave Warsaw after arriving for an international conference focused on Middle East security.
Netanyahu does not have his own plane, but charter jets from the national El-Al carrier are outfitted for his needs. The government is in the process of purchasing an official plane for the prime minister to use.
