Parliament extends women’s reserved seats by 25yrs
FROM JATIYA SANGSAD: The parliament on Sunday (July 8) passed the 17th amendment to the constitution extending the tenure of women’s reserve seats for 25 years.
The Constitution (Seventeenth Amendment) Bill, 2018 was passed unanimously by division votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Earlier, Law Minister Anisul Haq placed the bill aiming to ensure the women participation and empowerment of the women in the legislation.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Rowshan Ershad were also present during the session.
