Online platforms popular among younger generation
As online streaming platforms are becoming more popular, more and more people are now veering away from traditional television these days. Though the internet-based platforms are yet to eclipse the mainstream media, younger generation makers and actors have been leaning towards the emerging new online platforms, which feature a large number of programs during Eid celebrations, and the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha is no different.
A large number of special programs will be released on YouTube. Besides, platforms like iflix, BongoBD, Bioscope, Cinemascope and others will also release new contents this Eid. When talking to New Age, a number of young makers said that they prefer releasing programs on online streaming platforms because they find it lot easier than releasing shows on TV channels which often follow lengthy and controversial program selection procedures. Besides, streaming platforms are providing directors with more budgets compared to the TV channels.
'As directors, we want to reach as many viewers as possible. Nowadays, people prefer online platforms over TV channels because the channels run too many advertisements which viewers find irritating,' young maker Mizanur Rahman Aryan said.
'Local online streaming platforms are allocating more budget than TV channels for Eid special programs. A hefty budget helps directors produce quality productions. I think this is one of the major reasons why young directors are showing interest in releasing their works on online platforms,' said young maker Rafat Mozumder Rinku.
'Online platforms have been gaining huge popularity among the youths. I will release seven web contents on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha,' Mabrur Rashid Bannah said.
Younger generation actors and actresses are also showing interest to act in programs made for online platforms. When contacted, young actor Shamim Hasan Sarkar said, 'It's good that young makers are releasing their contents online. When it comes to releasing programs on TV channels, directors have to face a lengthy selection procedure. Therefore, young makers are releasing programs online.'
Actress Masuma Rahman Nabila said, 'I view the growing popularity of online streaming platforms as a positive development. Not only younger directors but also seasoned makers are releasing programs on online platforms these days.'
