No need to be worried over nuclear plant: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said there is nothing to be worried about the Rooppur nuclear power plant as it is being implemented with full security measures.
The premier made the remarks while addressing inaugural ceremony of the first concrete pouring of the second unit of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) in Pabna on Saturday (July 14).
PM Hasina and Russian Deputy Prime Minister for Defense and Space Industry Yury Ivanovich Borisov jointly inaugurated the construction work.
Sheikh Hasina said now technology has improved a lot and Russia is using their latest technology in implementing the project.
“We are also providing all necessary trainings to our workers for management, maintenance and safety of power plant. A separate trained unit has been formed with members of all law enforcing agencies including army. The training exercise is ongoing in Russia as well as in India,” she said.
The premier also said that there is nothing to worry about the plant as Russia had also took the responsibility of clearing the nuclear waste.
The nuclear power of Bangladesh will be used for peace, she added.
Cabinet members, PM’s advisors, officials of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority, senior atomic energy officials of India, Chiefs of three services and senior civil and military officials were present.
