Next-gen iPhones won’t be radically different: Kuo
With the iPhone XS and XR now out in the market, the rumour mill is running almost dry. It was expected that it would take a while before information leaks about the next generation iPhone models slated to be unveiled next year. However, Ming Chi-Kuo — the go-to person for all news related to iPhones, has something fresh for us regarding the 2019 iPhone models.

In one of his latest notes, Kuo suggests that next year’s iPhone lineup won’t be differing much from the 2018 lineup. As a continuation to the present models, Apple will unveil three models in varying sizes — a 5.8-inch OLED model, a 6.5-inch OLED model and a 6.1-inch IPS LCD (Liquid Retina) model. However, there’s one element that will be different from the current iPhones.

Kuo says that the 2019 iPhones will use a different kind of antenna technology. Presently, Apple is using a Liquid Crystal Polymer antenna on all the iPhone models currently on sale. With next year’s models, Apple will be using Modified Pi (MPI) antenna technology, which Kuo says is cheaper to purchase in bulk for Apple while offering similar performance. Additionally, the new antenna technology will aid for millimetre wave connections, which is another name for 5G connectivity.

Kuo has been mostly accurate with his iPhone leaks in the past and it gives us a fair reason to believe that these features will indeed make it to the next generation iPhones. However, don’t believe blindfolded as none of the information has been made official by Apple yet.
