Nato hails Afghan talks as  'historic opportunity'
Nato hailed the start of peace talks between your Taleban and the Afghan government on Saturday as an "historic opportunity", while caution that violence found in the united states remained "unacceptably high".

"That is an historic chance. #NATO stands with #Afghanistan to preserve the gains made and also to ensure the country never once again becomes a safe haven for terrorists," Nato Secretary-Standard Jens Stoltenberg wrote on Twitter.

In a longer affirmation from the Western military alliance, it said that the peace talks under way in Qatar were "a significant step towards bringing long lasting peace and steadiness to Afghanistan after decades of conflict".

Nato took part in the United States-led invasion of Afghanistan found in 2001 and led the UN-mandated force to stabilize the united states, which at its elevation numbered 130,000 troops. The Brussels-based corporation urged the government and the Taleban to "seize this chance of peace" at the start of talks which are anticipated to be rocky.

Mr Abdullah Abdullah, who's leading the government's negotiating team, called for an instantaneous, humanitarian ceasefire on Saturday - but his plea went unanswered by Taleban co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar. Nato said that "current violence amounts - driven by Taleban attacks against Afghan National Defence and Secureness Forces - remain unacceptably excessive and undermine confidence in the peace method.  "

We ask the Taleban to have decisive steps toward ending violence," it added. The talks will be being in a hotel conference place in Doha, where chairs were dotted at socially distanced intervals facing a banner emblazoned with what "Afghan Peace Negotiations" in four languages.
