NAIA in Philippines suffer flight delay due to bad weather
A red lighting alert caused delay of flight arrivals at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Philippines yesterday.
“NAIA is now experiencing a succession of flight arrivals as a result of a 2.5 hours suspension of ground movement for ramp personnel and flights. This is due to a red lightning alert that prevailed from 6:40 pm until 9:15 pm last night (June 9),” the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said in a statement today.
NAIA ramp operations were back to normal at around 10 pm yesterday.
Seven international and domestic flights to Manila were diverted to Clark International Airport in Mabalacat due to bad weather in Metro Manila.
The MIAA said the Red Lighting Alert is a safety measure taken to prevent any untoward incident from happening when lightnings are prevalent in the immediate area and may endanger personnel, passenger as well as flight operations.
“To all affected passengers, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that the situation has caused you and we humbly seek for your understanding,” the statement concluded.
