Nahid to meet private varsity VCs
In the wake of recent clashes between law enforcers and university students during movement for safe road, the Education Ministry has convened an opinion exchange meeting with the vice chancellors (VC) of private varsities.
The meeting will be held at the auditorium of International Mother Language Institute in the city on Wednesday.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will be the chief guest in the meeting to be held at 3pm, according to the ministry sources.
Earlier on Sunday, the minister had meetings with heads of private and government schools and colleges in Dhaka and asked the chief of the educational institutions to take the students back to classes.
Capital Dhaka had been brought to a standstill for over a week since July 29 as students took to the street to protest the deaths of two fellow students in a traffic accident.
On Monday, the ninth day of the demonstrations demanding for safer roads, clashes took place between police and students in front of some private universities.
Under the circumstances, authorities closed East West University for two days while Brac University for a day.
