Mominul joins elite club with century in both innings

Top order batsman Mominul Haque achieved the rare distinction of scoring hundreds in both innings of a Test match.

The left-handed batsman also became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to score century in both the innings of a test match scoring back to back century against Sri Lanka in the first test of the two-match series on the 5th and final day at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Sunday.

He hits 176 off 214 deliveries in the first innings and was unbeated on 100 off 154 balls in the second.

This was the 5th century for Mominul Haque in the elite Test cricket playing 47 innings of the 26th test after making his test debut against Sri Lanka in Galle in March 2013.

But his record breaking innings came to end when he was caught by Karunaratne off a De Silva delivery, contributing a polished 105 runs off 174 balls with three fours and two sixes, leaving team total 261 for 4 in 77.4 overs.

Ealier, Mominul Haque becomes Bangladesh’s highest scorer in a single Test match, beating Tamim Iqbal's record.

Mominul, who became the fastest to reach 2000 Test runs for Bangladesh during his 176-run knock in the first innings – coincidentally by beating Tamim’s record, is currently not out on 70 at lunch on Day 5 of the first Test against Sri Lanka. His combined first and second innings score in the Test now stands at 245.

In the 47th over, Mominul struck a single off Lahiru Kumara to reach the landmark.

Previous record holder Tamim Iqbal struck a second innings double century against Pakistan back in 2015 which saw him hold the record for most runs in Test with 231 runs.
