Missing AL leader rescued after 11hrs
Cumilla Awami League leader Parvez Hossain Sarker were rescued from Purbachal 300 Feet area in Dhaka some 11 hours of his his abduction at Lalmatia.

His family members said the abductors blindfolded Parvez, a member of Cumilla district unit of the Awami League, after dragging him into a car when he was returning home after offering Juma prayers at a local mosque on Friday afternoon.

He called his wife Tahmina Parvez and told her to pick him up from the 300 Feet street where the abductors dropped him after driving around, according to the family, bdnews24.com reports.

The family rescued him with the help of the police later and brought him back home around 12:30am on Saturday, Mohammadpur Police Station OC Jamal Uddin Mir said.

His nephew Abrar Samshad Zaki said Parvez could not say much about the abductors since he was blindfolded.

The police would speak to him on Saturday, Biplob Kumar Sarker, a deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told bdnews24.com.

Parvez, a former chairman of Titas Upazila Parishad, lives in the house number 30 at block C.

“The witnesses told us that the abductors were carrying guns and wireless sets. We are not sure whether they are from any law-enforcing agency,” Biplob had said earlier.

A man exchanged pleasantries and shook hands with Parvez when the ruling party leader was about to enter his home, Omar Ali, a security guard at the residence, told bdnews24.com.

Another person then approached and the two forced Parvez into a car, Omar added.

CCTV camera footages of the incident posted on the social media matched the description of the witnesses.

Awami League leaders in Cumilla said Parvez was vying for the party’s ticket to run for Cumilla-2 (Homna and Titas) seat in the December parliamentary elections.

His uncle Sazzad Hossain said Parvez stopped visiting Cumilla much for a few years due to a dispute with Titas Upazila Parishad Vice-Chairman Sohel Sikder.

Sohel, who is also the organising secretary of the Awami League’s Titas Upazila unit, could not be reached for comments.

Parvez’s wife Tahmina said he did not discuss politics with her, but asked to stay alert while going outside a few days ago.
