Microsoft stops games livestream, ties up with Facebook to compete with Amazon
Microsoft said Mon it was throwing in the towel on its livestream gambling program and teaming up with Facebook to raised contend with rivals like Amazon-owned Twitch.
Microsoft Mixer will be shuttered over July 22, the tech giant said on a statement.
“It became sharp that the time needed to grow our very own livestreaming community to scale was out of measure with the eyesight and experiences that Microsoft and Xbox want to provide for gamers now, so we’ve made a decision to close the operations aspect of Mixer and help the city transition to a fresh platform,” the Mixer staff said.
The gamers will be encouraged to transition to Facebook Gaming, which has some 700 million people who play or watch games on a monthly basis.
“We will continue to work to changeover the Mixer community over another few weeks. Starting on July 22, all Mixer sites and applications will redirect users to Facebook Gaming,” said by Phil Spencer, brain of Xbox, the game playing division of Microsoft,
Microsoft announced it was buying the livestream service Beam on August 2016 to bolster its effort to improve its ranks of people who play watching games online.
But the service, renamed Mixer in 2017, struggled to get traction against Twitch, Google-owned YouTube and Facebook Gaming.
Spencer said the proceed to shutter Mixer allows Microsoft to focus on its other games attempts including “the world-class content material being made by our 15 Xbox Game Studios, the development of Xbox Game Move, the start of Xbox Series X, and the global chance to take up anywhere with Project xCloud,” discussing the cloud-based game service.
“Bringing that vision alive, for as many people as possible, will see us dealing with different companions, systems, and communities for a long time to arrive,” Spencer added.
“It will also find us adjusting our technique to best serve players wherever they collect daily, which include the category of livestreaming.”
