Mahmudullah’s Patriots pick up first win in CPL 2018
West Indies T20 captain Carlos Braithwaite was the star of the show as Mahmudullah Riyad’s St Kitts and Nevis Patriots defeated Trinbago Knight Riders to pick up their first win in the Caribbean Premier League this season.

Braithwaite blitzed his way to a 15-ball 41 with five sixes and a four to propel Patriots to 203 for 7. Mahmudullah scored 16 off 10 balls in what was his first appearance this season, having sat out the previous match against Guyana Amazon Warriors which Patriots lost by six wickets. Mahmudullah was bowled by Sunil Narine in the 16th over after he had struck the spinner for a six and a four in the same over.

Devon Thomas struck a 34-ball 58 while opener Chris Gayle contributed with 35 at the top. In reply, Guyana lost big hitters Narine, Chris Lynn and Brendon Mccullum inside five overs as Sandeep Lamichhane, Ben Cutting and Sheldon Cottrell bagged a scalp each. Braithwaite then removed Colin Munro who had rapidly moved on to a 17-ball 35.

Darren Bravo (41), batting at No. 5, and Kevon Cooper (42 not out) allowed Guyana to put up a fight but in the end they fell short by 42 runs. Mahmudullah bowled just one over, going for five runs.

Brief scores: St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 203/7 in 20 overs (Devon Thomas 58, Carlos Brathwaite 41Mahmudullah 16; Ali Khan 3-23) beat Trinbago Knight Riders 161/8 in 20 overs (Kevon Cooper 42*; Carlos Brathwaite 2-19) by 42 runs.
