Lovers commit suicide within hours of each other in M’singh
Upset with parents for not accepting his relationship, an 18-year-old youth hung himself at his house in Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh on Tuesday morning (Sep 4). Hours after his death, his same age lover also hung herself.
The deceased were identified as Polash, son of one Saiful Islam and Arifa Khatun, 18, daughter of expatriate Nurul Islam, both hailed from the same upazila but separate unions.
According to local sources, both of them took the HSC examination from Polashihata School and College but Arifa could not pass. As family of Polash refused to accept the romantic relationship, he committed suicide in the morning. After hearing the news, Arifa followed the same path at noon.
Fulbaria police station officer-in-charge (OC) Sheikh Kabirul Islam said the bodies were recovered and will be sent to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) for autopsy.
