Local units in Amritsar called upon to produce textile products for defence forces
IIT Ropar recently called upon local manufacturing units in Amritsar to know their emerging needs so that MSMEs and manufacturing startups can be engaged in manufacturing material required by the defence forces.
Atharva Poundarik, assistant professor and coordinator, Center of Excellence for Studies and Applied Research in Defence and Security, addressed members of the local unit of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) during its annual zonal and interactive session in Amritsar and said these products could include textiles, material design, prototyping and more.Read More : Textile factories starting to close as they stop receiving gas He added that national security could be strengthened by technological solutions and this collaboration would provide tremendous business opportunities as well as offering research-based solutions. Along with giving good earning opportunities in the MSME sector, it will make the country self-reliant in its requirements. IIT Ropar formulated several projects to provide solutions for operational needs after consulting with the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), Shimla.
Amritsar has woolen industry units which specialise in blazers, tweeds and other clothing varieties, which could prove useful in providing troops deployed in high altitude areas with clothes, said Karan Verma, Chairman, CII Amritsar Zone.
In his address, Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Sawhney said he would arrange a meeting of Amritsar-based industrialists with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to take up their problems.
The G20 Summit brought in diverse flavours to Amritsar, said the founding chairman of CII Amritsar, Gunbir Singh. He hoped that benefits to the state’s revenues, grounds for a major convention centre, with trade and exhibition provisioning, a demand reiterated for a decade by the CII, would be met.
