DHAKA: Mentioning that the government will not formulate any law to thwart freedom of expression and freedom of journalists, Law Minister Anisul Haque said he wants to make a media friendly Digital Security Act.
The minister made the remarks after a meeting with media owners and journalist leaders on Digital Security Act at the Law ministry in secretariat on Wednesday (July 11).
According to Law Ministry, after cabinet approval, the draft of Digital Security Act is now in the hand of Parliamentary Standing Committee of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology Ministry. Concerned citizens and media workers have expressed deep concern over some of the sections of the Digital Security Act.
Law minister said a discussion is going on with journalists. They have asked me for explanation of some sections and also provided some new suggestions.
“Journalists reiterated their demand for not stifling their freedom of expression given by the constitution. I want to make as clear as possible that the government of Sheikh Hasina will not okay such law that undermines the freedom of journalists,” Anisul added.
