Lampard rips into ‘lazy’ Chelsea
Chelsea supervisor Frank Lampard now let rip in his players following their 3-1 Premier Group defeat at struggling London rivals Arsenal on Saturday, telling their "lazy" functionality had cost them the chance of going second found in the Premier League.
A good penalty from Alexandre Lacazette and goals from Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka helped a youthful Arsenal area seal their first little league win in nearly two months.
"It was an possibility to head out second against a team that are having trouble," Lampard, whose side dropped to seventh, told Sky Sports activities.
"You either try to make it problematic for them or you give them just a little beginning and we did that from minute one and continued for 45 moments. It was lazy to give apart a penalty and lazy to provide away a free kick that he (Xhaka) puts in the very best corner."
Chelsea improved found in the next half and scored in the 85th minute through Tammy Abraham to create it 3-1 before Jorginho missed a good penalty with an unhealthy effort.
"We fought ... however in the first one half we gave ourselves a great deal to do... I'll take responsibility on the outside but the players also need to have responsibility," Lampard added.
"The message was clear, Arsenal are a dangerous workforce. When you are out and play 60% or 70% then you are not going to gain any Premier Little league games."
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reported he was delighted with the win that lifted his team to 14th.
"It generally does not get any better than winning a good London derby against Chelsea on Boxing Day," he said. "Hopefully this is a turning level. I know they can play at this level.
