JVC HA-FX9BT earphones review: Affordable, but surprisingly good!
Rating:     4

The Indian arm of JVC KENWOOD has recently launched a variety of earphones in the country and we recently reviewed the JVC HA-FX65BN noise-cancelling earphones and the JVC HA-FX103BTA that offered some deep bass. Today we look into the 3rd option from the Japanese brand - the JVC HA-FX9BT and its own performance is surprisingly good.

JVC Gumy series 's been around for some years which is one of the brand’s most popular line-ups since it offers users a cheap, no-nonsense pair of earphones that are up to whatever task you throw at it. The JVC HA-FX9BT follows in the same vein which wireless option includes features that show the business is seriously interested in its products - 9mm Neodymium drivers, Bluetooth 4.1 interface, an inline microphone and battery life as high as 5-hours.

Design, Build

The JVC HA-FX9BT will come in a throw-away plastic packaging that may not be retained so you receive additional ear tips along with a short micro-USB charging cable. There’s nothing really special to write home about about the packaging as it’s as simple as you’d expect. Although it appears like an off-brand product, there’s nothing off-brand about the Gumy Wireless.

The earphones can be found in plenty of colour options according to where you are and in India, you can buy them in Black, Blue and White. Other markets involve some more options such as Green, Pink and Violet which is probably the most colourful products from JVC. For the intended purpose of this review, we were sent the Black variant and the universally-loved colour appealed to us as well.

The JVC HA-FX9BT includes a short cable with the inline microphone located near to the right earbud. The earbuds include a bullet design and sit snug in the ear canal. This not only helps give it a secure fit however the snugness also means that there is a tight seal which supports passive noise isolation which in turn improves the overall audio tracks quality. In the packaging, you get two additional couple of ear tips making them three altogether - small, medium and large. It’s advisable that you put on all sizes so as to measure the best fit for you personally.

The in-line microphone features a three-button layout which we found to be well-spaced. This helps it be easy to access whichever control you want without the accidental presses. A spot of contention which we'd was that as a result of short amount of the cable and the keeping the in-line remote, the weight-distribution isn’t the best. This tugs on the earphones which makes us feel that they will slip out of your ear cavity. However, during our testing, we are very happy to say that they remained secure in the ears.

Performance

The JVC HA-FX9BT was tested with an iPhone 11 Pro and being fitted with Bluetooth 4.1, the connection was pretty solid throughout. There was not a single time where we witnessed a loss in connection which allowed for uninterrupted listening.

As mentioned earlier, among the best features about the Gumy Wireless is its snug fit and with it, you get yourself a more deeply fit than most other options available available in the market. This enables you to block out ambient sounds and negates the need to turn up the volume to the maximum.

JVC HA-FX9BT review

Fitted with 9mm Neodymium drivers, the bass response is pretty impressive that actually surprised us a lot. There is substantial bass straight after unboxing which implies that there isn’t any burn-in required for fans who enjoy their music with punchy bass. The mid-bass is decent aswell and the sub-bass comes with an impressive depth to it aswell. The JVC HA-FX9BT is a bass lover’s dream and the ones who are trying to find an inexpensive solution that offers oodles of clean bass, then this program is definitely worth taking into consideration. The mid-range is soothing and relaxed while highs produce feature a fair amount of detail. The V-shaped sound signature is very much present with this Gumy Wireless earphone.

Battery life, alternatively, is a lttle bit of a disappointment since it offers a mere 5-hours of playback. There are true wireless earphones in the market that offer much more battery and JVC definitely must up its game in this respect.

Verdict
Coming in at Rs 2,999 and designed for Rs 1,999, the JVC HA-FX9BT Gumy Wireless are our pick of the lot with regard to its hottest offerings in India. This model offers some very nice audio quality and at this price, it’s an option worth taking into consideration over the JVC HA-FX103BTA Xtreme Xplosive earphones. However, if price is your concern, then there are other less costly models available for sale that offer similar features.
